International students

Studying in the UK is a big decision for you and your family. We guide you from choosing a course to arriving safely and settling into your new city.

Choosing your course and institution

We help you compare programmes, entry requirements, tuition fees and locations, and explain how UK qualifications are recognised in your home country. We are honest about costs, so your family can plan with confidence.

The Student visa in brief

Most international students need a Student visa. To apply you will need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from your institution, proof of English language ability, evidence that you can pay your fees and living costs, and in most cases to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge. You can usually apply up to six months before your course starts if you are applying from outside the UK.

Under current rules, students on taught courses generally cannot bring dependants, while students on postgraduate research programmes usually can. After graduating, eligible students may be able to stay and work through the Graduate route. Immigration rules change regularly, so we always check the current position on GOV.UK with you.

Already living in the UK?

If you live in the UK with another immigration status, such as settled or pre-settled status, you may be able to study without a Student visa and may even qualify for Student Finance. You will need a share code so the institution can confirm your right to study.

Arriving and settling in

We can help arrange accommodation and an airport pick-up, and we share a practical pre-arrival checklist covering banking, healthcare registration, travel and staying safe.

Lampton Education provides general information about UK study and immigration requirements. We are not immigration lawyers. Where you need regulated immigration advice, we will refer you to a qualified adviser.
